Mercedes Schlapp, the White House communication strategist, is a difficult job. The White House's senior advisor on strategic communications Mercedes Schlapp is required to deal with many challenges. This includes a president who also has his own director of communications and a variety of legal battles that may disrupt the communications strategy. However, throughout it all Schlapp is determined to focus on her task in hand and has worked closely with White House's political and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as in the larger communication operation for policy-related rollouts. Her focus has been on issues including school safety opiates, infrastructure, and trade. In her current job the director is not working with many journalists. In March, she received a flurry of interest when it was known that her name would be a candidate for take over Hope Hicks's position as the director of communication. Mercedes Schlapp's position in the role of White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't an easy task. It is not easy to have Mercedes Schlapp as the White House's communications strategic advisor. She's faced with many challenges, such being a president who is his communications director. Schlapp did not change her goals, and she worked closely to work closely with White House policy and political teams. She has focused on topics including security at schools, opioids, infrastructure, along with trade. The position she holds, however, means that Schlapp does not have contact with many reporters. There was a great deal of media attention when she was identified as the candidate for replacing Hope Hicks, the communications director. There has been a lot of fighting. Schlapp's ally Tony Sayegh and an alternative candidate, also named Tony, started jousting with each other during the media coverage. Schlapp said to that the Washington Examiner that she spoke to Sayegh to discuss the recent article that was negative on him.
